How long does it take to build a custom sign?
Depending on Borderland’s availability as well as available stock, this is a process that can take between 1 to 2 months. Why? See each stage of the process and what each involves ↓

1 - 3 business days
Each budget is thought out individually as it is a personalized product.

3 - 7 business days
It is normal that questions arise after analyzing the budget. This is a step in the process where a lot of time is invested.
Once all questions are answered, a contract is drawn up.
The reservation is concluded upon signature of the contract and payment of the deposit.

5 working days
Once the booking is complete, it is now time to assemble a digital mockup of the sign for pre-approval.
If changes to the initial visual proposal are necessary, they are carried out, which may take longer than 5 working days, depending on the type of changes and speed of decision-making.

7 working days
The structures of our signs are made of aluminum in order to guarantee greater resistance.
Once the visual proposal is approved, it's time to prepare the design for cutting.

2 - 3 business days
Once the base structure is ready, it needs to be reinforced, thus ensuring that it will not break during LED display or transport.
Depending on a number of factors, this is a process that can take up to 3 days if the structure needs to be painted in a specific color.

3 - 5 business days
Depending on the dimensions and complexity of the design, the LED display part can take up to 5 working days.
During the entire process, we test each LED after cutting the hose to ensure that no LED is wrongly cust or fused.

Now that all the LEDs are on, it's time to solder and wire everything. In case it is a sign with text, this is the time when we link all the letters together so that they all connect at the same time.
It is also at this stage that we measure the voltage of the sign and decide on the best transformer to use.

1 - 2 business days
No sign leaves our atelier without having been properly tested. During 1 to 2 days we test several things: if the transformer heats up, if the LEDs overheat, if any LED has burned out or is about to burn out, etc.
Only after passing this test phase is the customer notified that their sign is ready to be delivered.

Depending on how the delivery is made (if the customer comes to collect it, if we are going to deliver it or if it goes by courier), it is now time to prepare it. This involves packing the sign well so that it does not suffer any damage during transport as well as packing all its external components such as the transformer and the remote.
As each sign is different, it is common to have to buy specific material to pack each sign in the best possible way.

OUR STRUCTURES
Our aluminum structures guarantee greater strength and durability. In addition, aesthetically, they more closely resemble the old neon signs made of glass.
Besides all those advantages, they are also easier to clean, unlike acrylic which, at the slightest dust, is already noticeable as it reflects.
We do not work with acrylic.

But, who the hell is Borderland®?
Patricia & Fernando
We met in college in 2011, when we were both majoring in Set Design. The love for the arts and the aligned values made us fall in love with each other. We've been together ever since and Borderland is our little baby boy, born in 2015.
The fact that Fernando's father is an electrician made Fernando learn to work with electricity from an early age. In 2018 we made the first signs for ourselves, in 2019 people started to arrive asking us to do it for them and here we are, almost 4 years later, lighting up the homes of individuals, brands, companies and events.
